The Canon HS System –a 16.1 megapixel high-sensitivity CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 image processor –provides excellent detail and color in low light. Smart AUTO makes high-quality imaging easy in any situation, and Intelligent IS keeps shots clear and steady. CANON POWERSHOT D30
The PowerShot D30 isn’t the most feature-packed rugged camera, with basic GPS functionality and no Wi-Fi, but it takes good photos in nearly all situations, including underwater. That said, the user experience could use some work and the movie mode is dated.
SONY HX 60V
It has a market-leading 30x optical zoom, packed into a small body. It also boasts full manual control, although you can’t shoot in raw format. It’s matched in zoom ratio by the Panasonic TZ60, which is probably this camera’s biggest competitor. Along with manual modes, there are also semi-automatic and, of course, fully automatic modes.
Alongside that optical zoom lens, there’s a 20.4 million-pixel 1/2.3 inch Exmor R CMOS sensor. Sony’s Exmor sensors are backlit for best performance in low light shooting scenarios.
PANASONIC LUMIX TZ 60
The Panasonic Lumix TZ60 was announced alongside the Lumix-TZ55 at January’s CES expo in Las Vegas, and is the successor to the very popular Panasonic Lumix TZ40. This new ‘travel compact camera’retains the Wi-Fi connectivity and Near Field Communication (NFC) of its predecessor, but it also has a number of improvements over it.

Thanks to an improved energy efficient design, you can shoot up to approx. 330 photos at full resolution on a single battery charge! The Olympus TG-3 is a very solid and capable rugged camera that offers a fast lens (at wide-angle), an excellent LCD, fast performance, and top notch battery life. Image quality isn’t great when viewed at 100% –and exposure needs to be watched underwater –but most people will be happy with the results.
CANON POWERSHOT G1X
The G1 X is an excellent camera for some but not for everyone. The camera gives you great image quality and a versatile zoom range in a small package without the need to carry a stack of lenses. However, the sluggish AF, limited close-focusing capability, and lack of manual control in video mode will make some users look elsewhere.
CANON EOS REBEL SL1
As the world’s smallest and lightest digital SLR*, the new EOS Rebel SL1 is small in size but enormous in performance. With a newly-designed Canon 18.0 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor and speedy Canon DIGIC 5 Image Processor, it delivers images of extraordinary quality – ideal for those stepping up from a smartphone or compact camera.

Handling and build quality aren’t perfect, but the camera’s features make up for it.
The sharpness, clarity and richness of colors in the D5300’s photos and Full HD videos is nothing short of astounding. A recent design innovation allows the D5300’s 24.2-megapixel DX format CMOS image sensor* to capture the purest, most lifelike images possible. Pair that capability with any exceptional NIKKOR lens, marvels of clarity and sharpness in their own right, and you’ll experience the image quality your memories deserve.
PANASONIC DMC GX7
The Panasonic GX7 is a full-featured mirrorless camera that offers very good photo and video quality, a highly customizable interface, plenty of useful features, and robust performance. It’s marred by a so-so viewfinder, lack of in-camera raw conversion, and a disappointing in-body IS system.
SONY RX 100
The RX100 is probably the most capable compact camera on the market today, combining the image quality benefits of a mid-sized sensor with the proportions of a conventional compact. Extensive, though not flawless, manual controls make the RX100 a great second camera for DSLR shooters.
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 is positioned as the entry-level OM-D camera, though it’s just as capable in most ways as its more advanced siblings. It borrows the E-M5’s impressive imaging capabilities, without the weatherproofing, and adds built-in Wi-Fi. The E-M10 offers an impressive level of direct control in a camera body that’s light and compact.
SONY CYBERSHOT RX10
Sony cybershot DSC RX10 features a bright, large-aperture zoom lens, a big, extra-sensitive image sensor and other brilliant features that are ready to fire up your passion to create. This compact digital camera puts boundless picture-taking power in your hands and a fresh new outlook in your sights.

It also features one of the most impressive auto-focus systems on any camera at this price level, both in terms of accuracy with fast lenses and tracking moving subjects. Over all it’s a hugely engaging and capable camera, and one that’s fundamentally a joy to use.
