Digital Photography Tips
In this post I will be sharing some of the tips to improve your digital photographs.
AVOID THE SHAKE
This is one of the mistake that most people do. Shaking the camera while taking photograph can blur and reduce the sharpness of the image.
KEEP THE SENSORS CLEAN
Most SLR’s or compact cameras these days are equipped with internal cleaning mechanism, still there is always the possibility of dust being accumulated on your sensor, which will take time to remove from image editing software, so you should keep the sensors and lenses clean.
USE THE RULE OF THIRD
Open the grid on your camera or just imagine it, then place the object that you are photographing to the side rather than the center. Photograph taken this way looks more appealing.
EXPERIMENT WITH THE EXPOSURE
Most cameras have the setting to override the automatic exposure. Don’t forget to play with it, if the subject is dark then try to overexpose and if the subject is light try to underexpose, then have a look at the image on the screen of your camera. Try to take more than one picture and have a look at the system, since camera screen is not appropriate always.
MINIMIZE LENS DISTORTION
Most Nikon Cameras have the option to correct lens distortion while in Cannon you can correct lens vignetting. The correction features are normally switched on in the setup menu, although this will only be available if lens on camera is compatible with automatic correction feature.
ZOOM IN
Most cameras have an auto focus zoom lens, so get bold, and use it. Use this zoom to fill the complete frame with your subject, and take lots of pictures.
USE POLARIZING FILTER

If you intend to buy one filter for your lens, then make it Polarizer. This filter helps reduce reflections from water and Glass. It will improve the colour of Sky and will protect the lens too. The recommended Polarizer is circular since it allows your camera to use TTL (through the lens) metering.
MASTER MANUAL FOCUS
When shooting macro images in low light manual focus is much better than automated to give you more reliable results. So switch to live view and zoom into the image to make sure you are focused properly.
CHANGE POINT OF VIEW
A simple trick to enhance photograph is to change the point of view. An image took from unusual angle looks much interesting, since we generally don’t look to things that way.
USE SIMPLE BACKGROUND
The clearer the background, better the image. In digital photography its better to keep background as clear as possible, this removes the unnecessary distraction. If possible choose plain background, simple and neutral colours.
AVOID FLASH INDOORS
Flash at times, looks hard and unnatural for indoor portraits, so just avoid it, and instead of that try to increase the ISO some where around 800-1000, along with the shutter speed you choose. Use the widest aperture possible, this will allow more light to enter the sensor.
CHOOSE PROPER ISO
The ISO setting will determine how much your camera is sensitive to the light, on a bright sunny day we may keep the ISO speed lower around 100, where as for a dark scene we may keep the ISO higher b/w 400-3200. Higher ISO also induces grain in the image.
